FLOOD INSURANCE

A large part of the Hampton Roads region is prone to flooding and mortgage companies require the purchase of Flood Insurance based on the location of your home. If your mortgage company has told you you are required to purchase this coverage, or you are looking for a better alternative to your existing policy, be sure to give us a call. We offer some great policies that tie into your existing or new homeowner’s insurance policy.

Flood insurance is not included in a basic homeowner’s policy, however, according to the National Flood Insurance Program, your home has a 26% percent chance of falling prey to flood damage during the course of a 30-year mortgage. Even homes that are not in designated flood zones or aren’t in close proximity to water are always in the possible path of tropical storms and hurricanes that can have unpredictable consequences.

At Herbert-Lee Insurance Agency Inc., it is our goal to make sure that Hampton Roads residents are fully protected from any kind of financial loss. We don’t want to find you cheap policies and move on to the next customer, like the mass-market insurance companies do. We are independent insurance brokers who want to build a lasting relationship with our clients through detailed and trustworthy insurance services. We take the time to fully assess the unique needs of your home to determine the right amount of flood insurance coverage for you, and then shop your flood insurance needs to all of our trusted carriers, which include many of the industry’s most reputable names. We’ll even examine existing policies and see where your home could be at risk.

Flood insurance comes in two forms

  • Primary Flood Insurance: This type of insurance is insured and backed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The maximum amount of coverage you can purchase is $250,000 for your home and $100,000 for its contents.

  • Excess Flood Insurance: This type of insurance is insured and backed by private insurers. It covers any excess above your primary flood coverage. There is no maximum amount you can purchase.
